There are several farms surrounding Cheltenham and in an ideal world some of these would give over a couple of acres to growing certain veg for the local market. Convincing farmers to do this is an ongoing project being addressed by others.

Within Cheltenham the bulk of growing space resides with Allotments run by CBC. There are all fully subscribed and there is no sign of this capacity ever being expanded by the council.

Cheltenham is Growing has for the last 18 months been looking for a finding small pieces of land suitable for growing fruit and veg. A few small pockets have been found in premises owned by Cheltenham Borough Homes. Our initial project was to support the residents to grow veg for themselves, as a way of them looking after their own gardens, taking some pride in their surroundings, and creating a community and this is proving very successful.
