Accessible Gloucestershire
Accessible Gloucestershire is a Social Enterprise run by Christian Drewitt. Christian has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around, he also has a severe sight impairment. His own personal experiences with struggling to gain access to places are the backbone of Accessible Gloucestershire and he dreams of a fully accessible world, starting with his home county of Gloucestershire.
With the help of his personal assistant, Christian visits places all over Gloucestershire and completes detailed access audits in accordance with BS8300 and the Equality Act 2010. These audits are published on the Accessible Gloucestershire website to form an access guide for the disabled community. This guide aims to give disabled people in Gloucestershire a true reflection of how accessible places really are so they can plan their visits with confidence.
The audits are also sent to clients with detailed advice and recommendations on improvements that could be made to improve the overall experience for disabled visitors. Sometimes there are only small improvements that can be made to make a huge difference to accessibility. Christian and his PA have visited over 120 venues all over Gloucestershire and there is nowhere they won’t visit!
